Join Yoga Buzz for an hour of urban hiking aka “Rucking” (walking with weight in a pack) followed by an hour of Yoga at Tower Grove Park.
Even if you have never heard of a “ruck” or “rucking” you have probably already done it! For example, you have probably carried a heavy backpack in school or while traveling. The definition of rucking is walking with a weighted rucksack aka backpack and is a low-impact exercise that has origins in military training.
What do I need to bring?
A yoga mat, water bottle & a backpack (option to fill with weight, anywhere from 10 lbs all the way up to 35 lbs depending on your comfort & fitness level). Remember, please go lighter if you have any concerns or weight restrictions as the weight mentioned previously is just a guideline.
How do I pack weight in my pack?
Grab a weight and wrap it in a towel for cushion, and put it in the bag. Anything will work as your weight – dumbbells, bricks, books, you can even fill the bag with potting soil, just add weight. You can add towels or even a yoga block to help stabilize the weight in your pack.
Tip: start light and if your pack allows, keep the weight high and stable next to your back
Where do we meet?
We will meet at the Turkish Pavilion at Tower Grove Park at 8:45 am and depart at 9 am once everyone is checked in.
What can I expect?
The goal for this event is to gather as a community and find joy in moving your body with some weight on your back which is known to improve cardiovascular health and endurance while enjoying the outdoors and maybe make some new friends along the way.
